The object of studying linguistics
The object of linguistics, as we already know, is the language. She considers it from the point of view of the correct construction of sentences, the use of certain words and expressions. The work of linguists is also in the study of the lexicon of different peoples, grammar in both colloquial and written speech. They are interested in the origin of the languages used, and their modern usage. They are also fond of already "dead" languages, and very few - describe the rules of communication in these languages.
But do not confuse linguists with polyglots -those who know a lot of foreign languages. A linguist scholar can study only one language all his life, but he will do it carefully and persistently, acquainting himself not only with the popular set of words, but also with the history of the language, with rare words and stable expressions.
