Why nobody lives in these villas?
As they say, no good deed goes unpunished. The Chinese billionaire who spent tens of millions of dollars to build villas for the residents of his native village felt the same way.
But the houses are so empty, because greedy people cannot agree on who will get several villas, and to whom - one by one.
Five years ago, billionaire Chen Sheng allocated $ 31.9 million to build 258 luxury villas in his home village. In each three-story house - five bedrooms, two living rooms, a garage and a small garden. For every few houses there are playgrounds and there is even a stage for various events. Construction ended in 2016, but the houses are empty.
It wasn’t the prices of luxury housing that prevented people, because the billionaire gave them villas free of charge, but ordinary human greed. According to the 2013 census, the small village consisted of 190 families. But in the process of building new residents arrived in the village. Then Chen Shen built 68 more houses for all to be enough. That was a big mistake.
As soon as the construction plan was announced, the villagers began to dog among themselves who would get the housing. Some families said they were going to have many children, so they need a second villa. Others wanted to get their hands on several houses in case their children lead their families. And where is the young to live? Immediately the former villagers showed up, who had long since moved, but “suddenly” decided to return, and claimed the rights to the houses.
As soon as Chen Shen arrived in the village, the local people attacked him with requests to decide how many houses they would get. The billionaire was so disappointed with the behavior of his fellow villagers that for two years he had not come to the village at all. Therefore, the villas are empty, and the locals quarrel.
In addition to houses, Sheng planned to build a pig farm next to the village and set up gardens, thus providing jobs. The annual income of local residents would be 32 thousand dollars - inconceivable money for Chinese farmers. But all these plans turned into a collapse due to greed.
Meanwhile, vacant houses became objects of vandalism. The hooligans broke the windows, ruined the finish. And the villas are dilapidated and need repair.
